Line work and sculpting
Thudray

Thudray

For the majority of my art career, I’ve used mainly line work as the concept as well as the finished product for all my pieces. I would say I’m pretty good at it, with a single squiggle you can infer a lot of detail without having to render a surface. If you look at the drawing above, you can see some lines on his inner thigh that imply folds in the clothing. I didn’t have to render a shadow or highlight to do this. Line art is so great at being a framework, and its also great to be the final product, see comics/illustration/everythingElse.

Recently however, I’ve been wanting to add the second layer of rendering, digital painting. With digital painting, you don’t really use line art in the final product. There are styles that do, and when I’m comfortable with them, Ill probably try that out as well. But now I want to be able to sculpt with the brush, define a surface with values and color, using line art as the underlying guide.

I’ve bought some video tutorials on digital painting, and It’s honestly been kicking my butt. Color is such a new thing for me, and if I’m honest, Ive just been doing paint by numbers for the majority of my career.

Let’s see where this awkwardness takes me.

Thanksgiving

Happy thanksgiving friends! This week has been a wash for getting some artwork done, but in its place I get to hang with family and friends.

Wanted to thank you for coming back here to check out my progress and my thoughts. It’s been refreshing to post on here in a more long form format than say Instagram. I get to be a little more long winded with my windbag self, and I get real supporters like you stopping by to see my work.

I’ve been thinking about all the projects I want to finish, and I realized I’ve been great at talking about things I want to do but never starting. I’m trying to change that this year, and this website was a huge part of finishing something.

Thank you for being here, and supporting me and this corner of the universe. God bless you, your family, your endeavors and your future. I know mine is.

Business Cards

Finally designed some business cards! Really excited to carry some with me, when people need contact info and if they want to see my work. Kinda reminds me to get going making some of my own clothing.

There are some art events coming up that I am looking at, maybe just attend them to see how it works and then learn enough to put up my own art booth! Then I’ll be able to hand out more cards!
